Nepal Australia Maitri Sangh

Shobha Nepali (pictured) was born into a disadvantaged group in a remote poverty-stricken jungle area of Nepal called the Madi. Orphaned at the age of two she was brought up by her grandmother. All she could reasonably expect from life was an early marriage and hand-to-mouth toil in the fields.

The only person from her caste group to go beyond elementary education, she took part in a film to help raise funds for the education and community development of her people. The film ‘A Bridge to the Madi’ was made in 2005. Subsequently a Community Centre has been built as focus for a variety of activities. Income generating projects include goat-raising, a grain mill and an eco-tourism venture.

All donations will go towards furthering these projects and others.
