Hagar Australia

Hagar serves women and children who have survived domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Although each individual’s journey is different, Hagar supports each woman or child through four critical steps: protection, recovery, economic empowerment and reintegration.

Hagar is focused on the dignity and resilience of the individual and committed to real life-¬giving relationships that nurture each person towards their full physical, emotional, social, spiritual and economic potential.

Hagar was established in Cambodia in 1994 and launched programming in Afghanistan in 2008 and Vietnam in 2009. In this time it has restored the lives of over 15,000 women and children.

In 2011/12 Hagar provided:

  • 184 clients from Afghanistan, Cambodia and Vietnam with safe shelter
  • 200 hours of legal counselling and assistance
  • Over 600 hours of support in capacity building of local and national authorities in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Vietnam.
  • Over 3,000 hours of counselling to 360 clients
  • Over 500 hours of career counselling to 216 clients in Cambodia and Vietnam
