Australian Sponsorship 4 African Kids (AS4AK)

Funds raised by AS4AK are sent to Basics International, which operates a large multi-functional educational facility known as Nana’s House located in the poor fishing village of Chorkor, Ghana.

This is where poor and disadvantaged children are rescued from the streets and given a chance at a better life. They learn to read and write, get help with their homework, have vocational training and recreation and eat a daily nutritious meal. At least 100 children visit the safe haven each day before and after school, for homework assistance and private tutoring. They also participate in extracurricular activities including computer training, sewing, music and dance, cooking, art, poetry, sports and drama.

The funds raised are sent directly to Chorkor, and used to pay teachers’ salaries and activities which increase food security for the children. As a direct result of the feeding program AS4AK helps fund, many children suffering from malnutrition have been restored to health. Our objective at AS4AK is to support a safe, nurturing environment in which these disadvantaged African children can interact with their peers, develop a positive focus and flourish. As a small organisation, with a very hands-on board, AS4AK operates with minimal overheads or other costs.
